The arrival of warmer days increases the incidence of insects in the home. These appear mainly at night because they are attracted to the lights on in the areas outside the homes. Insects use moonlight to fly and return to their habitat. When they encounter artificial light, they often get confused and change direction, thus entering houses.
The lamps that attract the most insects are incandescent ones. Next come compact fluorescent lamps, halogen lamps, and finally LED lamps.
The acquisition of anti-insect lamps! These lamps emit a light that is invisible to mosquitoes.
Light is an electromagnetic wave, like radio waves. The light spectrum is not visible to all living beings in the same way. Humans can see wavelengths ranging from 390nm to 750nm, which correspond to colors ranging from dark blue to dark red. Insects, in turn, see a range of light that goes from blue to ultraviolet. Since the light from these lamps is outside these limits, it becomes completely invisible to them. Additionally, these lamps use LED technology , emitting less heat than conventional lamps, which is a factor that also keeps mosquitoes away.
The only thing you will have to do is replace the bulbs you already have with insect repellent bulbs! You will get a double benefit: on the one hand, there will be fewer insects on the terrace, garden and indoor space, as they will not be attracted by the light; and on the other hand, by switching to LED lighting, you reduce electricity consumption.
If the LED bulb socket does not fit the bulbs, you can use an adapter.
An added benefit of minimizing the presence of insects is that the spiders and lizards that feed on them will also disappear. No more cobwebs on the porch.
They work great as a repellent and will provide a special ambient light. They can also be placed in a glass or lantern, becoming a decorative element.
A ceiling fan on your porch or balcony will also help in the bug-fighting mission and help you deal with those hot summer nights.
Some plants work very well as a repellent for mosquitoes and other insects. They can be placed on the window sill to prevent them from entering the house. Or they can be planted near garden furniture to keep insects away from summer dinners.
Among the various options available, we can highlight mint (especially cataract mint), rosemary, dill, sage and tarragon.
